Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Social Groups

As music magazines is targeted at sixteen to twenty-one year old of both genders; this has been represented as the individuals on the front cover represent this age group and have both genders. This gives a direct target to the aspired audience as it is shown on the front cover of the magazine. My music magazine doesn't target a particular social group but those who have an interest in rock music, which often is stereotyped for punks etc.

Gender

My magazine had been targeted for both genders however due to the dark use of colours surges twards a male orientation. The dark colours connotes a masculinity about the magazine, however many rock magazines use thsi type of colour scheme and therfore for females they should be accustomed to these colours and therfore the target audience will still be attinable. Although, to ensure there was some aspect of balcance I have used various images of the female individuals on the front cover and double page spread.

Age

The chosen age range for my magazine is 16 to 21 year olds. This is represent in a number of ways such as the individuals used in the images are withing this age range; I have also stereotypically represented the audience is of a young adult range, due to the use of mature and illectual language used for this age group; as the colours also personmifies the age group.

Genre

My magazine stereotypically represents an audience of a middle class. My magazine represents this by being of a sufficient price; £1.99. Someone of a lower class generally would not choose to spend their money on magazines, however students who are interested in mainstream music stereotypically are mainly of a lower class and therefor a high class student may choose to buy a music magazine of a different genre.
